Pergo passes real life durability test in Copenhagen Central Station

06 January 2015

For a period of two weeks, the laminate flooring was exposed to the dense traffic of approximately half a million commuters at the Copenhagen Central Station in Denmark. Specifically designed for heavy commercial applications, Pergo’s public Extreme laminate proved more than up to the challenge. A piece of the flooring used in Copenhagen will be on display at the upcoming Domotex trade fair in Hannover (Germany).

Every day, over 100,000 people pass through the Copenhagen Central Station.

Every day, over 100,000 people pass through the Copenhagen Central Station. It is the main hub for commuters in the Danish capital. In the night of 9 November 2014 Pergo installers closed down the east entrance to the station for what was to be an ambitious real-life test. The goal? To demonstrate how Pergo’s durability class 34-laminate is the perfect solution for commercial, high-wear applications.

Over a period of two weeks, the Pergo team closely monitored the floor’s condition as it withstood the burden of thousands of boots, skates, trolleys and bikes. The dense traffic and the effect it had on the laminate floor were documented on tape. Once the test was complete, both the video and the floor itself were testimony to its exceptional durability.

Decades of expertise

Laminate flooring in public environments needs to be extremely durable. Pergo floors come in three durability classes of which the public Extreme range is best suited for dense traffic. Thanks to the patented TitanX™ Advanced Surface Protection, the laminate offers exceptional resistance to wear, impact and scratching.

The Copenhagen Central Station offered the perfect opportunity to put these features to the test in a real-life environment

Anders Karlsson, International Portfolio Manager at Pergo tells the story behind Pergo laminate: “To us, it all boils down to creating beautiful, but practical flooring with a long life span. Building on decades of expertise, we put together a flooring solution that can boast outstanding protection against heavy use. The Copenhagen Central Station offered the perfect opportunity to put these features to the test in a real-life environment.”

On display at Domotex

Every step of the Copenhagen test, from installation to deconstruction, was filmed. The result is a remarkable document, which not only shows the everyday traffic, but also puts the durability of the Pergo laminate in a new perspective. From 17 to 20 January, the film, along with a piece of the floor itself, will be displayed in the Pergo booth at DOMOTEX, the leading trade fair for floor coverings in Hannover, Germany.
