Ever since 1987, the W.G. Morgan Hotel (W.G. Morgan Hotel) in Vilvoorde (Belgium) has been providing sports, hotel, conference and event facilities to sports- and business(wo)men alike. Besides a modern sports hall and gym area, the centre also hosts 35 hotel rooms, a restaurant, a cosy cafeteria, numerous meeting rooms and much, much more. In 2014, the W.G. Morgan Hotel decided to upgrade its facilities to host a wider audience. The centre chose Pergo as its flooring partner.
The fact that it comes with a 10-year warranty sealed the deal: such a long-term commitment on Pergo’s part speaks volumes
“To attract more people to the W.G. Morgan Hotel, it was necessary to revamp our hotel rooms, cafeteria and meeting rooms”, recalls Marc Staelens, Manager at W.G. Morgan Hotel. “As flooring is a major part of every renovation project, we were looking for floors that are both visually arresting and perfectly resilient to wear and tear. We felt that Pergo’s laminate was cut out for the job. The fact that it comes with a 10-year warranty sealed the deal: such a long-term commitment on Pergo’s part speaks volumes about the laminate’s quality.”
The W.G. Morgan Hotel set the bar high on quality and aesthetics. “We decided on Pergo’s stylish, black oak laminate for our hotel rooms”, Marc explained. “Not only does it create a stunning contrast with the white walls and furniture, it can also be cleaned really fast without leaving any unsightly stripes. An important feature if you’re running a hotel where you have to prep rooms in next to no time while your guests, for their part, expect them to be spick-and-span.”
“But that’s not all”, Marc added. “We also aimed to soundproof our hotel rooms. Pergo’s Professional Soundbloc underlay turned out to be perfect for eliminating walking noise and ensuring our guests of a good night’s rest. What’s more, it also provides the necessary insulation to protect the floors from heat or damp damage in the rooms directly above our sauna facilities.”

The coming and going of dozens of people every day, suitcases being hauled through a room, pointy high heels and umbrellas: some floors have more to handle than others. That’s definitely the case at the W.G. Morgan Hotel. “Luckily, Pergo’s laminate flooring is extremely scratch-resistant”, said Marc. “Both in our hotel and meeting rooms, the floors have been installed for several months already. I expected to see some scratches popping up by now, but no: not a single one so far!”
The W.G. Morgan Hotel had a clear concept in mind to refurbish its cafeteria. “We aimed to create three visually distinct areas”, Marc explained. “A trendy bar, a comfy lounge and a classy restaurant. To make the whole as cosy as can be — and enjoyable even to people who don’t like sports — we chose mango colours for the furniture and interior decoration. We needed a floor that would fit in all three areas. That’s why we decided on Pergo’s elegant walnut laminate planks, with their exclusive look and silky texture.” “For our meeting rooms, we wished to lay a floor that would go well with the darker colour of the table tops”, Marc continued. “Among the thousands of tints and styles offered by Pergo, we were bound to find the right one: the Mountain Grey Oak.” These planks have a classic look and feel, with the strength to withstand a high-wear area like a meeting room.
“We’ve received a lot of positive feedback”, Marc concluded. “Both about the floors and the overall revamp of the W.G. Morgan Hotel. I was also very pleased with the installers that Pergo recommended. They displayed a lot of professionalism and had a great sense of planning. They even finished the job — laying over 800 m² of laminate — a day earlier than expected. A rewarding partnership!”
